Water polo discipline consisted of one event: the men's team competition. In the preliminary round twelve teams were divided into three groups. Two best teams from each group (shaded ones) advanced to Group A of the final round to determine places 1 through 6. The rest of teams played in Group B of the final round to determine places 7 through 12. The first eight teams qualified for the 1985 FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup in Duisburg, West Germany.

To Be Sung Underwater: A Novel

To Be Sung Underwater: A Novel Review

Judith Whitman always believed in the kind of love that "picks you up in Akron and sets you down in Rio." Long ago, she once experienced that love. Willy Blunt was a carpenter with a dry wit and a steadfast sense of honor. Marrying him seemed like a natural thing to promise. But Willy Blunt was not a person you could pick up in Nebraska and transport to Stanford. When Judith left home, she didn't look back.

Twenty years later, Judith's marriage is hazy with secrets. In her hand is what may be the phone number for the man who believed she meant it when she said she loved him. If she called, what would he say?

TO BE SUNG UNDERWATER is the epic love story of a woman trying to remember, and the man who could not even begin to forget.

Saltwater Buddha: A Surfer's Quest to Find Zen on the Sea Review

Fed up with suburban teenage life, Jaimal Yogis ran off to Hawaii with little more than a copy of Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha and enough cash for a surfboard. His journey is a coming-of-age saga that takes him from communes to monasteries and the icy New York shore. Equal parts spiritual memoir and surfer's tale, this is a chronicle of finding meditative focus in the barrel of a wave and eternal truth in the great salty blue.

Water Polo at the 1983 Summer Universiade

Water Polo at the 1983 Summer Universiade Review

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Water polo events were contested at the 1983 Summer Universiade in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.Water polo is a team water sport. The playing team consists of six field players and one goalkeeper. The winner of the game is the team that scores more goals. Gameplay involves swimming, treading water, players passing the ball while being defended by opponents, and scoring by throwing into a net defended by a goalie. Water polo, therefore, has strong similarities to the land-based game of team handball. The frequency of 'man-up' (or 'power play') situations also draws comparisons with ice hockey.

Bob Hughes: The True Story Of A Legendary Waterman

Bob Hughes: The True Story Of A Legendary Waterman Review

"Bob Hughes...finest water polo player in U.S. history" - Peter Cutino, Renowned Cal Berkeley Water Polo Coach.

This is the remarkable story of an Olympic athlete; a gentle giant, feared by his opponents and idolized by his teammates. The most dominant U.S. Water Polo player for over a decade, Bob Hughes  was a fearsome opponent who could throw the ball through the goal, and you with it if you thought you could hang on to his throwing arm.

The star U.S. water polo player at the 1952 and 1956 Olympic Games, Hughes was also a breaststroke champion who developed his own unique, all-underwater approach to swimming the breaststroke, earning him a World's Record and a place on two U.S. water sports teams at the 1956 Olympics...an accomplishment not duplicated since Johnny Weissmuller in 1932. He was also, unknowingly placed on the on the Soviet radar.

At the height of the Cold War the Soviets did not miss the opportunity to use the Olympic Games as a political tool, duping a number of U.S. citizens into becoming agents for the Soviets in their attempts to weaken star Olympic athletes like Hughes.

The concept for the modern Olympic Games was to combine the fun of athletic competition in a positive atmosphere, designed to teach the world tolerance of cultural differences. To imagine being an athlete striving to compete in the Cold War era Olympic Games is unthinkable. This is the story of Olympic competition, international love, communist intrigue, personal disaster and redemption.
